Hi all!
RapidWeaver is about to see it's first big upgrade for nearly 4 years. RapidWeaver 6 is in semi-private (limited) beta and we are seeing RapidWeaver 6 versions of some stalwart RapidWeaver plugins coming out, including some being used in a test site I am using to publish this blog post. Loghound and Yourhead have both been making RapidWeaver 6 versions of plugins for example, even if not all are public quite yet.
RapidWeaver 6 embraces the new sandboxing Apple now insist on, and this was certainly reason for part of the delay (initial sandboxing systems in Mac OS weren't really in a position to consider dealing with the whole RapidWeaver add on ecosystem until well into Mountain Lion's life). Some significant UI changes improve workflow and theme usage, the Photo Album drops the use of Flash technologies, and we get some new toys including the use of Markdown.
Due to Apple's insistence on no update paths in the Mac App Store system, we might find Realmac have to take some interesting options using their online store (maybe offering cross-grades from the App Store to non-App Store??), but safe to say we have been told RapidWeaver 6 will not be Mac App Store only. We will have to wait to find out which options lay ahead for us.
Well, time to get back to testing, but for RapidWeaver users, it will prove to be an interesting time!
with best regards,
Karn @ WebKarnage.
